About the New Mexico Impact Lab
The New Mexico Impact Lab is an independent project that makes New Mexico's public records usable. A great deal of government information is technically public but practically out of reach — locked in scanned PDFs, one-record-at-a-time portals, or systems that forget everything after each session. We collect that material, structure it, and publish it so the public doesn't have to file a records request to see what's already theirs.
What we cover
We follow money and power across all three branches of New Mexico government: the Legislature, the executive agencies that spend public money, and the courts. Our current work spans legislative records, campaign finance, lobbying, court and financial records, and public spending. See our investigations.
Independence
The Lab is not affiliated with any party, campaign, agency, or single institution, and it is not a campaign against any one target. The goal is a durable, statewide public record that outlasts any single story or session.
Principles
- Public records only. Everything is drawn from information the law already makes public.
- Sources preserved. Every dataset links back to where it came from.
- Facts, not accusations. We publish what the records show and let readers decide.
- Privacy respected. We focus on official conduct and withhold private personal information.
